Project Description

A discourse analysis of terrorism in Nigeria.

Statement of the problem

The 9/11 attacks and the consequent war on terrorism gave birth to
the internationalization of terrorism (Jackson et al, 2011; Sampson,
2012).

Forest (2011) however depicts the spillover effect as Al-Qaeda’s
expansion to other parts of the globe; with Sub-Saharan Africa in the
map of influence.

Prior to 9/11, Nigeria has maintained a history of violence, unrest
and instability; in form of the Biafra civil war, coup d’états, military
rule, ethnic and religious violence, political violence to mention but a
few (Oyeniyi, 2009:43-50; Sampson, 2012). But a new addition to
the national medal of honors collection-‘terrorism’ demands a critical
examination.
